Amitabh Bachchan to play Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: reports
Every passing day, the cast of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is getting biggger, it already, reportedly has Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha. As of now, it seems Amitabh Bachchan has also joined the film.
As per a report on Zoom Entertainment, Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in to play King Dashrath in the film, though this is not the first time, the legendary actor has been roped in to play a part like this. Many years ago Sanjay Khan was planning a film called The Legend of Rama with his then son-in-law Hrithik Roshan as Ram, and his son Zayed Khan as Laxman, Mr Bachchan was then approached to play King Dashrath but the film fell through.
Ramayana begins filming in March 2024, with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi. Sunny Deol is slated to commence shooting for his role in May with Yash joining the cast in July. The team aims to wrap up Ramayana shoot after completion of Yash’s scenes, targeting a Diwali 2025 release. The film is planned to be a three part series and few months ago it was reported that Ranbir would be flying to Los Angles to be part of pre-visualisation of the film with the VFX company who are hired to work on the same.
The excitement for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, the cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic, is skyrocketing with each passing day. Moreover, fans seem to be quite excited to see Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Devi Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Yash as Demon King Ravana. The entire team is prepping up to go on the floors in March and recently, Ranbir underwent diction and dialogue training.
While fans are eyeing updates of the magnum opus, a recent report reveals about the looks of RK as Lord Ram.
As per a recent exclusive report by India Today, Ranbir underwent a look test for Lord Ram.
Ranbir Kapoor will soon begin shooting for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. If reports are to be believed, the makers are currently working on the actor’s look for the movie. As reported by India Today, Ranbir Kapoor recently underwent a look test for his portrayal of Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s film. An insider told the entertainment portal that a photoshoot of Ranbir’s look test was held recently which impressed everyone from the team. The source also claimed that the director does not want Ranbir to gain extra muscle for the role of Lord Ram. Instead, he wants Ranbir to be in his lean avatar.
Earlier this month, it was also reported that Ranbir will also undergo voice and diction training for the film. “Ranbir has a certain baritone and a way of speaking his lines. It is symbolic and if you have even closed your eyes, you can recognise a dialogue purely based on Ranbir’s voice. In ‘Ramayana’, Nitesh wants to make sure Ranbir sounds different from the characters he’s played in the past. Being a versatile actor, Ranbir is enjoying this process of trying something new,” a source cited by India Today claimed.
Further, the source revealed that Ranbir will not be putting up any extra weight or gaining extra muscles to play his role as director Nitesh Tiwari wants him to be in his natural lean look. Briefing about the photoshoot, the source added that Ranbir’s bare-bodied look with golden and gem-studded ornaments has impressed everyone, who has seen the photos.
Undoubtedly, Nitesh Tiwari won’t leave any stone unturned for his ambitious project. Following the response of the audience for Prabhas-starrer Adipurush, Tiwari must be extra cautious as Ramayana is connected to the sentiments of every Hindu.
Earlier, reports were abuzz that makers are in talks with Vijay Sethupathi for Vibhishana, Lara Dutta for Queen Kayikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh for Suparnakha and Amitabh Bachchan for King Dasharath. However, there is no official confirmation backing the claims. Fans need to wait for an official announcement about the same from the makers.
